Have you ever stopped to think about what other people say or think aboiut wen they do a news article on you? Over the years, at least since I was a teacher, there have been several articles done on what I was doing in school or in the community. However I never stopped to think about them until now.
Below is a couple of responses to the article printed by the Southern, a local paper. Kinda makes you think don'tcha know.

Why else would anyone live in Johnston City? The downtown is a joke. Businesses are falling right and left. The town is broke. Friday Night 11:25pm
Today was something else. I spoke to a couple of people about what I was dongin town and got the office set up. All ready to go except for a couple or three cords for the monitor and printer.
I belive there will a great deal of interest once I am able to meet with the various groups here in town, I have to arrange a meeting with the school board, ministerial alliance and of course JCCO and the Lions. I have a great deal of faith in this being something which will affect the futire of Johnston City in a positive and growing way.
To give you an idea of some of what I have to face here in town I will post a couple of pics which I also have on facebook.

Stardate:08062009 Location:Johnston City, IL
Today was a most interesting day. I was up and ready to go at 5. had my normal morning breakfast, 6 cups of coffee and a peanut butter sandwich, no jelly (bad jelly). Took care of Facebook and emails the shower and off to my first appointment. Had to come back home before I got there...forgot the keys to the office.
My meeting went really well. I believe I found a way for the group from Royalton to save about 10 grand on asbestos removal cost. Seems the type the had could be safely removed by the people themselves with out the use of a removal team, that is if I read the information correctly on the IEPA site. Their asbestos was only on the old heating pipes, No where else.I also told them about using HLS to help finance the refurbishing of the old gym into a community center since they also want to use it as a disaster center as well.
As for fund raising, the usual ideas bucket brigades, food, sales etc. I also recommended using the old bricks for a patio, selling them and having a stone cutter put names or dates on them, thus giving the community a stake in the work. Creating positive connections with the seniors and the youth were also discussed and I believe it may make a difference, I will let y'all know.
Next was moving the stuff from Herrin to my new office, I have most all of it there and will be getting a desk from a local office furniture dealer tomorrow. I should be up and running by the end of the day tomorrow.

First day blues
Well I finished up my first day just making a few contacts. My noon meeting was moved to Tuesday but I had a great meeting with the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren group.
Gonna take tomorrow and work on my agenda for this month and see what kind of trouble I can get in (oh don't I wish.)

Getting ready for a new year of who knows what
I am finally getting some rest befor starting my new life as a VISTA. After a Dr. visit early tomorrow morning I will get to check out my office space and I have a meeting scheduled for noon with my supervisior.
I hope to have office equiptment soon so I can start getting down to all the things I need to do. I only have one regret and that was we had another fire while I was at PSO and now a whole block sits in a charred mess or rubble.
